Sand County Classic

Today we are sharing some unfortunate news as we continue to experience an unseasonably warm winter season. Like many other pond hockey tournaments in the region, the 2024 Sand County Classic has been canceled.

Safety will always be our top priority for players, spectators, and staff. Keeping this as our priority, we have determined that the warm weather will prevent us from being able to ensure safe playing conditions on our lakes & ponds.

. . .

As we turn the page, the excitement for next year’s event, to be held Jan. 31 - Feb. 2, is already building. The 2025 Sand County Classic promises to be our biggest, most anticipated tournament yet!

WHAT TO BRING

While Sand Valley provides great room amenities and a variety of equipment for all of your indoor and outdoor fun, you may require additional items for the ultimate experience. Below is an optional list of items that can help you prepare for your visit.

  • Swimwear/rash guard

  • Leggings/thermal-wear

  • Snow boots

  • Ice Skates

  • Skis

  • Extra hats, gloves, and scarves

  • Exercise clothing

FAQS

  • All activities are optional. There is no pressure to 'take the plunge'. Listening to your body is an important awareness to have and we will be practicing that throughout the weekend. There are also other cold exposure options and opportunities to participate in like a cold walk, cold sitting, and a childhood favorite-snow angels.

  • No. All activities are optional.

  • If you have any health concerns, talk to your doctor about taking an ice bath and doing super-ventilation breathing exercises. Finishing your showers with a 10-30 second period of cold or cooler water can help. Gaining the confidence and understanding that you and your body are capable of much more than you think, will certainly help your mindset.

  • The weekend is an opportunity to expand your understanding of your body and mind so being open and curious about new information will elevate your experience. Leaning into physical and mental resistance can facilitate breakthrough of limitations and beliefs that no longer serve you. Asking your facilitators any questions to address any concerns is also recommended.

  • It is important to wear something you will be comfortable in. This can include a swimsuit, short/long sleeve swim shirt, swim shorts, or leggings. You are welcome to wear a winter hat or neoprene gloves.

*You may want to bring an extra towel or blanket and a set of dry clothes to change into after the cold dip.
